ArcelorMittal Dofasco No. 6 Galvanizing Line APC Tower

The APC tower for AMD’s No. 6 galvanizing line stands 235 feet tall and was built in the middle of an existing mill building. The tower is a cooling tower that is integrated with the building envelope.   It is a very unique structure which required us to design to very exacting tolerance and building stiffness.

Our Role

Walters Inc. fabricated and erected 1,100 tons of structural steel including the building envelope.

Overcoming Challenges

It was challenging to demolish a portion of an existing mill building roof and erect the 235 ft tower within very little tower perimeter laydown area.  The project also needed to be delivered in a tight 24 week timeframe.
