The APC tower for AMD’s No. 6 galvanizing line stands 235 feet tall and was built in the middle of an existing mill building. The tower is a cooling tower that is integrated with the building envelope. It is a very unique structure which required us to design to very exacting tolerance and building stiffness.
Walters Inc. fabricated and erected 1,100 tons of structural steel including the building envelope.
It was challenging to demolish a portion of an existing mill building roof and erect the 235 ft tower within very little tower perimeter laydown area. The project also needed to be delivered in a tight 24 week timeframe.
