Job Description

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager – Field Services, the Walters Site Safety Coordinator will support the implementation of project-specific health and safety execution plan. The Site Safety Coordinator will work with Health and Safety Manager – Field Services to ensure that all safety measures are executed on a daily basis, all with the goal of enhancing site safety culture within tight and shifting deadlines.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of site-specific health and safety policies, procedures/practices and programs to prevent injury and enhance site safety culture.
  • Conduct safety training, inspections, toolbox talks and full health and safety orientation for new site team members (including subcontractors).
  • Conduct detailed incident investigations, assist with the implementation of identified corrective actions and facilitate all incident close out meetings with client.
  • Facilitate our Early and Safe Return to Work process.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative standards, Walters Field Services policies and procedures as well as client requirements for all workers on site including subcontractors.
  • Participate in the site JHSC and ensure our crew has a worker member; attend Site Safety Meetings with client.
  • Participate in third-party inspections/investigations such as with The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.

Desired Skills and Experience

Required

  • Post-secondary education in Management or Occupational Health & Safety (or related)
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in managing health and safety within the construction industry/unionized environment with a structural steel focus
  • Valid drivers' license
  • Ability to travel to Project Sites on a regular basis

Skills, Knowledge and Competency Requirements

  • A team player; one who can communicate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Programs such as Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Excellent Problem Solving Skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation

Working Conditions

  • Able to climb stairs and ladders and lift up to 50lbs
