Apprenticeships & Co-op Placements

Apprenticeships

Walters Group serves as a training ground for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades such as welding and fitting through apprenticeship programs. We bring candidates into the program who display characteristics in line with our core values and provide them with technical training. At the end of the three-year program, candidates are registered tradespeople and receive their Certificates of Qualification.

It is quite simple to participate in the process. Just apply for a position at Walters and convince us that you are a perfect fit for our team! Once you are employed with us and show promise that working in the trades is indeed your calling, we take care of the rest. We will register you and sponsor you as an apprentice. The only thing you have to do from there is work hard and go to school (evening or day release each week) and within no time you will become a qualified tradesperson.

We currently have increased our number of apprentices because we believe that investing in the future will only better equip us to deal with the looming skilled trades shortage. We work with schools including: Conestoga College, Mohawk College and Niagara College.

Co-op Work Placements

We also offer co-op work placements in disciplines related to our field of business such as engineering, project management and trades. There is nothing more valuable than a young person gaining experience in their chosen field before they leave school and join the workforce. Walters has hired many of our co-op students and summer students.

We recommend the ‘four or eight-month working interview’ which provides the opportunity for students to live our core values and demonstrate that they are a good fit for the Walters team.

We currently work with many colleges and universities including: McMaster University, Mohawk College, Fanshawe College, George Brown College, Conestoga College, Sheridan College.
