Concrete span installation for The Manhattan West Development underway

How do you move a 2,100 ton+ precast segmental concrete girder that is 36 ft. wide by 15 ft. deep in the heart of Manhattan? And move it over train tracks while the station is still operational? Carefully, and with lots of planning and specialized equipment!

Using a Launching Gantry and hauler/straddle carrier assembled by our Metropolitan Walters team, we’ve just completed the first span installation of building a bridge that will span the train tracks bordered by 31st Street, 9th Avenue, 33rd street and Dyer Avenue. The bridge is central to supporting The Manhattan West development by Brookfield Properties. The end result will transform the Hudson Yards into a vibrant, mixed-use district of retail and residential housing.
