Epic Jobs in Skilled Trades

Walters Group recently took part as an exhibitor in an event called “Epic Jobs”. Funded in part by the Ontario Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, Epic Jobs is a joint venture between the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, Grand Erie District School Board, the County of Brant and many other community partners. Their collective focus is to inspire students to explore new career pathways in skilled trades, manufacturing, hospitality and other fields, through hands-on, interactive exhibits.

The Workforce Planning Board worked with local school boards and community partners to bring approximately 1,200 students to the Brantford, Ontario based event to hear from experts in the areas of industrial trades, construction, and service trades. The agency has been working for years to promote skilled trades, often partnering with the local school boards to find creative ways to reach students.

“A huge thank you to Walters who showed area students how women and men in the skilled trade occupations are an essential part of building great products and gratifying careers.” shared Jill Halyk, Executive Director of the Workforce Planning Board. “Through your participation, our kids have put their hands to work to experience a taste of what manufacturing has to offer.”

This event enabled our team to give the students who visited our booth, the opportunity to learn and engage by asking questions about our company and the careers we offer. One of our employees at the booth, Kaylyn Roloson, is an apprentice in metal fabrication. She graduated from McMaster University with a degree in studio art before she found her true calling in building structural components for steel buildings. Kaylyn shared her experience about what led her to our industry, appealing to all students to learn more about the skilled trades.

It was an epic day for all involved!
