iSPAN made substantial research and development investments towards UL/UC improvements in 2014 resulting in significant technical improvements. These improvements provide iSPAN with composite floor joists that are easier to install; saving time and costs for clients. The composite floor system does not require mesh, only light steel frame wall systems. This allows for the industry to provide light steel frame buildings that are greater than six stories in height.
Currently, the North Point Condos in London, Ontario and the Marriott Suites Hotel in Ottawa are two buildings which include the composite floor system. Later this year, iSPAN will begin construction of two, eight storey buildings. This height will be a first for light steel framing in Canada.
