Grassmere Construction Sign

Grassmere Construction Ltd. recently opened a new office in Tillsonburg, Ontario. They tasked Feature Walters with fabricating and supplying a Corten steel office sign with mounted letters on acrylic that suits the modern architectural aesthetic of their new space.

The sign was fabricated using Corten steel and was shop blasted and installed with the intent to naturally weather. The lettering was skillfully mounted to the face of the Corten Steel plate, incorporating space to accommodate lighting. The illumination of the letters against the dark contrast of the Corten steel back plate gives a warm glow to the sign and compliments their versatile office space.

Facts & Figures
  • The sign was fabricated using A588 (Corten) steel.
  • The metal plate was shop blasted and installed with the intent to naturally weather over time.
Our Role

Based on the design, Feature Walters fabricated and supplied the Corten sign complete with lettering and anchoring ready for installation.

Overcoming Challenges

In order to achieve the desired sizing of lettering for the sign, Feature Walters needed to fabricate a mockup of the letters on the sign to evaluate the readability from the distance of a street view.

Additionally, choosing the type and size of anchors to use in order to properly attach the entire sign to the building was a challenge. Feature Walters was required to test and evaluate a variety of methods. Thanks to our focus on precision and accuracy, the Feature Walters team achieved the desired result for our client.
