The Great Canadian Casino Resort (Formerly Woodbine Casino) expansion was a 5,000 seat multipurpose performance venue, multiple food and beverage offerings, two new hotels including a pool, spa and retail facilities integrated seamlessly with existing operations.
Walters was responsible for supplying, connection designs, detailing, fabricating and installing 3,300 tons of structural steel, 177,500 sq. ft. of metal deck, and miscellaneous metals for the new performance venue.
The project faced tight timelines, design changes, engineering challenges such as the direct connection of insulated metal panels (IMPs) to skirt steel, coordination issues, and logistical constraints such as limited space and height restrictions. To overcome these, we used our Model to Truck™ process to fast-track steel fabrication, implemented just-in-time deliveries to optimize on-site space, and utilized smaller cranes to comply with height regulations. Advanced BIM modeling and custom engineering solutions, including over 1,800 custom connections for the IMPs, ensured precise alignment of the steel framework and IMPs while maintaining structural stability throughout construction.
