The new recreation complex at RBJ Schlegel Park is slated to be Kitchener’s inaugural net-zero carbon building and one of Canada’s most sustainable recreation facilities. With Multiplex as the General Contractor and Unity Design Studios as the architect on this project, the complex will be equipped with geothermal cooling and heating and Kitchener’s largest array of solar panels. The indoor recreation complex aims to reduce carbon emissions by 22 tons annually, which will result in an estimated $100,000 in annual utility savings for the city.
Kitchener’s recreation complex will feature an indoor aquatics centre, a FIFA-sized indoor soccer field, a walking track, an indoor cricket batting cage, and spaces for athlete amenities, among other amenities that will serve as a community hub catering to a wide range of interests.
