The Laurier Brantford YMCA Athletic and Recreation Centre is the new home of the health, fitness and aquatics complex built through a partnership between the governments of Canada and Ontario, Wilfrid Laurier University and the YMCA.
Opened in early 2018, the facility includes an aquatic centre for teaching, fitness, therapy and leisure. Multi-purpose spaces for fitness classes and social, educational and cultural programming are all available, as well as teaching spaces for community education and community-based health care programs.
The Laurier Brantford YMCA facility serves residents of Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations, the postsecondary institutions in the community, as well as visitors.
Walters fabricated, painted and erected 585 tonnes of steel comprising of seven 115 ft span AESS trusses, eight girders and two 140 ft long x 22 ft wide cantilever trusses.
With large truss lifts at the site, logistics and planning were key with a full street closure required to successfully complete our scope of work.
