Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital was first hospital to be built in the York Region in the last 30 years. As part of Mackenzie Health’s two-site hospital model, Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital provide increased access to state-of-the-art healthcare closer to home for the residents of York Region.
Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is the first hospital in Canada to feature fully integrated “smart” technology systems and medical devices that can speak directly to one another to maximize information exchange.
Walters role was to supply and install all structural steel for the Central Utility Plant (CUP) building which houses all the power, heating, generators and IT for the hospital. The three stacks with perforated panels for the CUP were lifted as one assembly. In addition, we supplied and installed the steel for the ambulance bay steel and decking.
CUP was required onsite in three months from being awarded the project. We were ready in 3.5 months, with concrete pour delays accommodating the extra two weeks. The Stacks required some challenges in how to build them, where to build them, and in how to accommodate the mechanical contractor.
