Facts & Figures
  • 1,500 tons of structural steel
  • Eight 175-foot-long steel roof trusses, each of which was split into three segments for fabrication, assembled on the ground on-site and erected single pieces
Our Role

Walters Group supplied all the structural steel and designed the roof steel. The size of the project required the fabrication services of all three Walters plants (Hamilton, Princeton and Stoney Creek). Walters Field Services performed the installation.

Overcoming Challenges

Our largest challenge was meeting an inflexible 10-week erection schedule (starting in August 2013).  We used two cranes to meet the deadlines:  An 80-ton crane for the outer bowl and a 160-ton crane for the inside bleachers and roof steel. We also planned ahead, ensuring a sufficient backlog of fabricated structural steel prior to starting erection to allow our expert field crew to establish and maintain on-site continuity and satisfy the project schedule requirements.
