NextStar Energy is a JV partnership between LG Energy Solution and Stellantis to open Ontario, Canada’s first EV battery plant. This venture represents the most significant automotive manufacturing investment in the province’s history and the start of the EV transformation in Ontario. The joint venture company will produce leading-edge lithium-ion battery cells and modules to meet a significant portion of Stellantis’ vehicle production requirements in North America.
Ontario’s automotive industry is ready-made for complete vertical integration and contains abundant raw materials needed to build EV batteries, including nickel, cobalt, lithium, and graphite. Ontario also houses world-class mining, chemical, and automotive companies that can form an end-to-end supply chain.
Construction of the Windsor plant started in 2022. Battery production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024.
