Ohio Expo Arch

The Ohio Expo Center & State Fairgrounds, home to Ohio State Fair since 1886, has undergone a major renovation to modernize its historic 360-acre campus. This revitalization project includes the transformation of outdoor spaces to be more flexible and accessible, enhanced with thoughtfully designed landscaping and a defined navigational pathway using varied materials to improve pedestrian flow.

A key feature of this upgrade is a new entry gate that replaces the outdated entrance near Historic Crew Stadium. As the primary entry point of approximately 80% of fairgoers, the new gate will offer permanent ticket booths and a striking canopy structure to shelter pre-event security screenings, delivering both functionality and lasting first impressions.

Our Role

Dave Steel, a Walters Group Company, supplied 100 tons of structural steel for the new iconic arch canopy and supporting framework of the upgraded ticketing area. The project was delivered as a design-build from a structural standpoint, with KPFF serving as the structural engineer. Our team coordinated extensively with the fabric supplier Birdair and provided custom-fabricated splices for the box arch and curved HSS members to achieve the project’s complex geometry with precision and seamless assembly.
