Part of the CIBC SQUARE development, the Scotiabank Arena Pedestrian Bridge (formerly known as the ACC Bridge) is an enclosed walkway that is part of the Toronto PATH network. It provides easier access from Scotiabank Arena to the Metrolinx GO Bus Terminal within the CIBC SQUARE office tower at 81 Bay St.
Walters Group was responsible for the fabrication and erection of structural steel for the Scotiabank Arena Pedestrian Bridge, as well as the Union Station Pedestrian Bridge and Yonge Street Pedestrian Bridge – all part of the CIBC SQUARE development.
Walters Group fabricated and erected approximately 860 tons of structural steel collectively, for these structures.
The Scotiabank Pedestrian Bridge’s distinctive C-shaped geometry and fully glazed façade introduced unique structural challenges including torsional forces. To address this, Walters Group worked closely with RJC Engineers to incorporate torsional camber. This allowed the bridge to align correctly under its own weight once installed.
Due to the size of the trusses, the bridge was fabricated in six segments and pre-assembled into two halves of the bridge in a nearby yard. Using a 600T mobile crane stationed on the Bay Street rail overpass at Union Station, each half of the bridge was lifted and successfully installed over a Labour Day Road closure.

CIBC SQUARE has become a landmark in Toronto’s Financial District, redefining the modern workplace. More than just a commercial development, the project serves as a dynamic community hub.
