Walters Group recently hosted the Metal Fabrication Competition and Elementary Workshop at Skills Ontario 2025, marking our 8th year of involvement in Canada’s largest skilled trades competition. This event continues to showcase and inspire future talent in metal fabrication and welding.
The Elementary Workshop, now in its third year, provided Grades 7 and 8 students with a hands-on introduction to welding and metal fabrication, attracting strong interest and engagement at our booth. The Metal Fabrication Competition itself saw impressive growth, with 14 participants from across Ontario demonstrating exceptional skill, creativity, and dedication, further highlighting the bright future of the steel industry.
We extend a special thank you to the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) for their continued generous sponsorship, which makes both the workshop and competition possible. Special thanks also go to Russell Metals for donating all the steel materials, Henlex for fume collection, Air Liquide for providing gas for thermal cutting and welding, and Miller for supplying the welding equipment used in the competition.
The support of colleges goes beyond providing equipment, they are where future metal fabricators begin their journey. Metal Fabricator is the Career, and these colleges truly show how you get there. We are grateful to Algonquin College, Cambrian College, Conestoga College, Durham College, Fanshawe College, Fleming College, Loyalist College, Mohawk College, Niagara College, Northern College, Ogwehoweh Skills and Trades Training Centre, Saulte College, Sheridan College, St Clair College and Technical Training Group.
Congratulations to our medalists: Kyle from Conestoga College, Nicolas from Mohawk College and Jonas from Niagara College!
Walters Group is proud to support initiatives such as Skills Ontario, promoting skill development and fostering the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
