Marty Verhey

Director, Strategic Relationships

Marty’s career at Walters started as a young student where he learned the trades by working on the shop floor as a welder and fitter. After spending a few years in branch management for a major Canadian bank, Marty returned to the family business. He has applied his corporate experience and business-focused education to lead the development and execution of a strategic Human Resources function for Walters.

Marty’s role is focused on bringing structure to the Human Resources function of the organization, recruiting for top talent, and advancing the culture of learning and development. Walters is committed to continuing to build a people-focused culture and a strong workforce for the future.

Marty has a strong entrepreneurial spirit and is passionate about building relationships with tomorrow’s workforce. Recognizing that there is a significant challenge in attracting students to the trades and providing them with real world experience, Marty spearheaded a successful partnership with Mohawk College to establish the Mechanical Techniques Welding and Fabrication certificate program.

Walters is in a unique industry with a low unemployment rate as well and an aging workforce of industry experts and leaders retiring. An important part of my job is to ensure that Walters is an employer of choice and bring on talented young professionals to minimize the talent gap as much as possible.
