This past weekend on October 14th, a group of Walters employees had a chance to tour our Laurier Brantford YMCA project. It is our goal to always help our employees feel connected to the end vision for a project, and one way we do this is by providing opportunities for employees to visit project sites that they have either directly worked on or indirectly contributed to.
The morning started with a guided tour of the YMCA building with Tim Verhey, Project Manager. Employees had a firsthand look at the steel erection and the facility. This YMCA includes a large double gymnasium, indoor pools, a state of the art fitness centre and other amenities and will serve residents of Brantford, Brant County and Six Nations and the post-secondary institutions in the community, as well as visitors.
“It’s been both exciting and humbling to be a big part of building Brantford’s new YMCA within our own community,” shared Verhey. “Many of us will be here with our families once complete.”
Walters completed our role of fabrication, painting and erecting. Feature elements include seven 115 ft span AESS trusses, eight girders and two cantilever trusses, each 140 ft long x 22 ft wide, which will be exposed to view in the fitness centre. The complex itself is anticipated to open early 2018.
