Walters Group and Ogwehoweh Skills and Trades Training Centre Announce Joint Venture Program for Aspiring Metal Fabricators

January 16, 2025

Welding Joint Venture Program

Walters Group is thrilled to announce a renewed partnership with Ogwehoweh Skills and Trades Training Centre (OSTTC) for the launch of our joint venture program, Introduction to Metal Fabricator (Level 1). This program, which will start in January 2025, aims to provide students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in metal fabrication through a paid internship at Walters Group while completing their 15-week course at OSTTC.

The program, designed for students interested in pursuing a career in metal fabrication, combines classroom learning with practical experience. Students will gain essential skills such as fabricating and repairing carbon steel, interpreting engineering drawings, and applying math to real-world projects.

Hands-On Learning and Career Opportunities

The 15-week program includes in-class instruction and a paid internship at the Walters Group Princeton Campus. The internship, which takes place one day a week (Mondays), offers students the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, learning directly from experts in the field.

Graduates of the program will be well-equipped to pursue positions such as fitters, labourers, and other entry-level roles within the metal fabrication industry, with a clear path toward long-term career advancement at Walters Group and other key companies in the industry.

As part of this joint venture program, Walters Group will provide steel materials to support the student’s education and training. This contribution allows students to work with the same materials used within the industry, further bridging the gap between education and real-world application.

Walters Group and Ogwehoweh Skills and Trades Training Centre are excited to offer this opportunity to students eager to launch a rewarding career in metal fabrication
