Walters Group has been awarded a key role in the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Phillip and Susan Ragon Building Project. This multi-year construction initiative aims to address inpatient bed shortages, improve patient care, and unite specialty medical services.
Phase 1, led by a joint venture between Turner Construction Company and Walsh Brothers Inc., involves constructing a 19-story tower with a steel core, six levels of parking, a five-story podium, and a pedestrian bridge, requiring 10,500 tons of steel. BOSS Steel Construction is expected to last four years, with the first section opening in 2027 and BOSS Steel will be overseeing the installation process.
Designed by NBBJ, the project will feature two towers with 482 private beds, state-of-the-art cardiac and cancer treatment facilities, and a potential new public transit connection. The facility will be located on Mass General’s campus, framed by Cambridge, North Grove, Parkman, and Blossom streets, and will include 566 bicycle parking spots and an underground garage for 864 vehicles.
