Walters Group is proud to announce Metropolitan Walters’ successful completion of steel work at the new Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University. This 30,000-square-foot cultural facility, designed by CookFox Architects, is set to open in the Fall of 2026 and will serve as a lasting tribute to Bruce Springsteen and American music history.
Located near the very spot where Springsteen wrote Born to Run, the three-storey facility includes exhibition galleries, a 230-seat theatre, and archival spaces. Walters Group was awarded the steel and timber scope for this landmark project and delivered an integrated hybrid construction approach, featuring a steel perimeter, a steel-framed theatre, and mass timber elements including glulam beams, columns, and CLT flooring.
This marks one of the first projects in New York City to implement a fully integrated steel and timber package under a single contract. Our role, in collaboration with Timberlab and DeSimone Consulting Engineers, involved full coordination and execution of both steel and timber, streamlining the process and minimizing trade conflicts on-site.
The hybrid design allowed for the concurrent installation of timber and steel, accelerating the schedule while reducing waste and material clashes. With full control over both scopes, Walters Group was able to resolve fit-up issues in real-time, enabling a clean project turnover just 2 weeks after steel erection was complete.
The building is now fully enclosed, and while fascia and some interior work are still underway, Walters Group’s onsite work is complete. We’re proud to have contributed to this innovative and meaningful project, which sets a new benchmark for hybrid construction and collaboration.
