The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) recently held their Steel Design Awards of Excellence in both the Alberta and Ontario regions. The Design Awards bring forth an opportunity to celebrate structural steel’s versatility in design and construction.

In Alberta, Walters Group was honoured to receive three Steel Design Awards. The Architectural Award was awarded to Studio Bell (The National Music Centre) in Calgary. Unique in purpose and form, Studio Bell is a non-typical building requiring very atypical solutions! The Steel Edge Award was also awarded to Studio Bell. This is a category for a project that demonstrates tremendous innovation and ingenuity in the application of steel design, fabrication, detailing or finishing. Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta received the Collaboration Award. This award is given to a project team who demonstrates “value added” to the project through collaborative project delivery approaches throughout the design and/or construction process.

At the Ontario Regional Steel Design Awards Ontario Awards, Walters Group was delighted to receive two distinguished Awards of Excellence in the Engineering and Bridge categories. The Award of Excellence in the Engineering category was given for 480 University Avenue in Toronto. This category recognizes structures in which engineering considerations predominantly influenced the design and construction. The Award of Excellence in the Bridge category was awarded to the Burgoyne Bridge in St. Catharines; in this category the judges focus on fabrication and erection challenges.

We are honoured for the opportunity to collaborate on such impressive, creative projects and are humbled by the steel industry’s recognition of the excellence exemplified in these projects.
