The selective Catalytic Reduction Support Structure for the Ontario Power Generation Corporation at the Nanticoke Generating Station was one of two “identical” projects executed simultaneously at the Nanticoke Generating Station and the Lambton Generating Station near Sarnia, Ontario. Both the Nanticoke and Lambton Generating Stations were fully operational coal- fired power generating plants.
Connection, detailing, fabrication and installation of 5,200 tons of structural steel for Lambton Unit #3, #4 and Nanticoke Unit #7, #8 Upgrades.
The challenges during the project were primarily driven by schedule and site logistics. We were working in a very confined space being assembled and installed with multiple cranes. We installed pre-assembled boxes that formed into a table-like design with the table top itself being three-tiered trusses.
The installation had to take into consideration the deadweight deflection created by the design so we used a specialized cambering system to address this.
