Tim Hortons Field, formally Pan Am Hamilton Stadium, has the largest average number of individual stadium seats of any outdoor facility in Canada. The 22,500 seat fixed stadium is expandable up to 40,000 seats for special events and is the new home of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The stadium was also a soccer venue for the 2015 Pan American Games.
Walters fabricated and delivered steel to site and manufactured all the structural steel, including the steel stairs for the east and west stands of the 22,500 seat fixed stadium.
The work was performed in a tight residential area surrounding the stadium, so noise was a concern. Walters decided to use Tension Control bolts which generate less noise when torqueing compared to standard bolts. It was also a small site with numerous trades on site together. Careful planning and execution were instrumental with multiple trades and multiple cranes to ensure efficient and safe work.
