Safety First

April 28, 2016

Today is World Steel Safety Day. This is both a day to remember those who have been killed or injured on the job, and also a time to reaffirm our commitment to keeping our worksites and plant floors safe and healthy environments.

The World Steel Association established Steel Safety Day in 2014. We firmly support this awareness raising initiative. At Walters Group, our commitment to work place safety goes back decades, and is reflected in our continual improvement of safety equipment, work practices and employee training.

It is also reflected in our safety record: Walters’ construction sites have a well-earned reputation for the emphasis we place on the safety of all workers. This past February, we were proud to be recognized by the Hamilton-Halton Construction Association with an award for achieving an excellent injury/frequency score in 2013/2014. In 2014, we also celebrated over one million man hours without a single lost-time injury on the K+S Potash Canada’s Legacy Project.

Of course, we are all too aware that there is more to be done. One of the most effective things we can do is invest in training, education and awareness raising about what actions – before and during work, can help keep members of our team safe and injury free. That’s why we recently launched a new safety initiative called “Protect Yourself, Protect Each Other.” This initiative aligns with Worldsteel’s vision of raising awareness to reduce risks.

We will continue to do everything we can to ensure that at the end of each day, everyone who works for or with Walters Group feels confident that they are working in an environment where safety is always a priority.
