The Detour Lake Gold mine is Canada’s largest operating gold mine. Walters Inc. completed the detailing, supply, and erection of over 9,000 tons of structural steel which forms the backbone of the Detour facility. This complex project was completed through careful planning, teamwork, and the perseverance of our site team who worked through a harsh Northern Ontario winter to ensure the project was a success.
To meet an accelerated construction schedule, Walters offered extensive Design Assist services and worked closely with the design team to synchronize that work with steel fabrication for the Detour Lake Gold Mine.
We began with a partial release of drawings and a very short construction window. The clients wanted all buildings complete and cladded before the cold weather of the following winter. We coordinated design and fabrication work to accelerate the process and self-shipped more than 400 truckloads of steel over rough roads in order to meet the deadlines.
