Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc.’s West Plant is the North American manufacturing facility for the ever-popular Toyota RAV4 crossover utility vehicle. Production of the RAV4 at the West Plant rose from 78,000 in 2009 to over 250,000 in 2016. This expansion has helped TMMC continue to respond to the high demand for the RAV4. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. also manufactures the Toyota Corolla, Lexus RX 350 and RX 450h vehicles and is the first plant outside of Japan to build a Lexus vehicle. The company employs more than 8,000 team members at three manufacturing plants in Ontario, Canada.
Walters Group provided engineering, detailing, fabricating, painting, and erecting a 300’ x 100’ structural steel facility for the West Plant expansion.
Walters worked with a very tight timeline and schedule, as a result the coordination of detailing and fabrication was challenging to ensure timely erection of the double columns and crane girders – all of which required heavy welding and tight tolerance control in the shop.
