Once complete, the 221-metre TELUS Sky tower will bring 25 floors of office space and 28 floors of residential space to downtown Calgary. The new mixed-use development will dramatically increase the urban density of the area, with a flood of new office workers, residents and retail stores. The tower is being built to LEED Platinum standards and is expected to use 80% less energy than some similar sized towers once completed. TELUS Sky is set to open at the end of 2018 and upon completion will be the third tallest building in Calgary, behind Brookfield Place Calgary and The Bow – both of which Walters has helped to erect.
Walters role is to provide fabrication and erection of the structural steel in the Atrium, +15 bridge, Cantilevers from Levels 3 to 6, Level 29 and the roof. We also provided parkade columns for the seven parking levels within this building.
An interesting challenge has been finding space to work on site. Along with working onsite with very minimal laydown area, the atrium wall and stairs we are installing are between an existing building and TELUS Sky, which are under 6 meters away from each other.
