The owner, Cadillac Fairview, requires an extensive restoration and expansion of 2 Queen Street West. This heritage building is prominently situated on the northwest corner of Yonge and Queen Street in downtown Toronto. This project, designed to improve the quality and utility of the property while preserving its unique architectural features, will restore the original 1885 façade with the addition of three more storeys to the building. Furthermore, a top floor will accommodate a first-class restaurant with an exterior terrace. Overall, the redevelopment comprises 23,150 square feet of office space and 22,011 square feet of retail and storage space. Once complete, the 125 year old, 2 Queen Street West, will be restored to a “like new” condition.
Walters is responsible for supply, detail, connection design, fabrication and erection of temporary and permanent Structural Steel and Metal Deck.
As the existing 125+ year old façade is in poor condition, anchoring steel will be difficult. Located on a very busy intersection in Toronto, deliveries are made from Yonge St. during the late morning/early afternoon time-frame to minimize disruption to downtown traffic.
Space is limited as well. Lay down areas and site erection of the trusses will occur at the Eaton Center parking garage level, which is located at the top floor.
